Catherine Annie Hollingsworth is a licensed acupuncturist and owner of Red Sage Acupuncture Center.
Following a career in dance and the visual arts, she became fascinated with alternative medicine. She felt Western medicine too often left people dependent on medications or required surgery. She was passionate about finding other options for her friends and family members who were suffering. She has found that acupuncture is a highly effective form of treatment on its own, or in conjunction with conventional medical treatment, physical therapy or psychological care.
Her practice is shaped by the sensitivity and awareness she gained in the arts. When treating patients, she looks at the whole person — not just their symptoms but also who they are in health, as well as habits, diet, emotions, and life events to understand why her patients have gotten sick or are feeling bad.
From her experience as a dancer, she also has great appreciation for the body itself, and the ways in which we must take care of it in order to feel our best and continue doing the things we love.
Catherine earned a BA in Visual Arts from Brown University, and a Masters of Oriental Medicine from the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture, with additional study in Dr. Tan’s Balance Method and trigger point theory. She is board certified by the NCCAOM as a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine. Her writing on Chinese Medicine has been published in Acupuncture Today.
