Catherine Hollingsworth, L.Ac.

I have a BA in Visual Arts from Brown University and a Masters of Oriental Medicine, a 3 year program, from the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture. I love acupuncture because it is so gentle and effective, balancing the whole system, a truly holistic medicine that reminds us how it feels to be whole and healthy.

My treatments are rooted in the Five Element Acupuncture tradition, which tunes a person’s mind and body like an instrument is tuned to make harmonious sound.

About the Acupuncture Clinic

Red Sage Acupuncture is located in a quiet corner of South End, in a beautifully renovated historic warehouse that provides a healing oasis from your day.

Here, our focus is on acupuncture because this one medicine can treat so many different kinds of conditions. If you are new to acupuncture, or you have received treatment before, welcome! I am happy to help you feel better, talk you through the process, and make your healing experience both comfortable and rewarding. I'm always happy to educate you about how acupuncture works, and to provide lifestyle recommendations, referrals and suggestions so that you can have the best outcome.

PARKING
We have ample free, reserved parking for the clinic, and are easily accessible from both the local neighborhoods and highways.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who Is Acupuncture For?

Patients of any age, including children and teens, can benefit from acupuncture. You do not have to know what is wrong, or have a formal diagnosis.  If you are working with a doctor, chiropractor, massage therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist, you may also receive acupuncture as these treatments all compliment each other. You can also use acupuncture as monthly or seasonal maintenance when you are in good health.

How Many Needles Do You Use?

Different treatments call for different approaches. In general, I approach acupuncture with a "less is more" attitude. We are giving your body a message, and the simpler the message, the greater the change. This makes for a treatment that is both gentle and effective, especially when we are balancing the body's energies. In most cases this means that I am using 4 to 10 points for each treatment. For treatments aiming to revitalize a specific area, more points will be used (pain relief or facial acupuncture) in order to create more circulation and flow in that specific area.

Is Acupuncture Only for Pain?

Acupuncture is best known for treating pain. However it is a wonderful medicine that can treat so many things! And best of all, acupuncture can treat many symptoms at once because we are working on a root cause. As I often tell patients, you don't have ten problems, you only have one. Because a single root cause can show up in different areas of the body and change over time. I welcome you to browse through the "Specialties" section of the website to see all the different conditions acupuncture can treat:

• Pain and Sports Injuries

• Body Symptoms

• Facial Acupuncture

• Women's Health

• Emotional Health

• Children and Teens

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

This is the number one question I get. The short answer is no, my treatments are gentle and my patients typically describe the sensation as a quick mosquito bite that they barely notice. Most people find the treatments very calming and relaxing once the points are in place and some people even fall asleep during the treatment!
